Bb. Pilipinas turns COMEDY!

I really still can’t get over it!

So before I started laughing again, allow me to congratulate my fellow Thomasian, Ms. Jennifer Barrientos for winning the 2008 Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown. Go Girl! You made your entire UST family SOOOO PROUD!

Going back, I was one of the many who always watch this annual event at my house. I wanna know who will be the ones who will represent the country for the biggest pageants in the globe. Other than that, I also want to treat myself with some laughter after a day’s hard work — watch out for the funny scenes if there will be any.

Luckily, the pageant didn’t disappoint me. Candidate No. 15 was able to make my tummy ache in laughter.

Grabe talaga ito! At nanalo pa siya! Whahahahahaha… πŸ˜€

You probably know already what I’m talking about. But for those who don’t, watch the video below. You might even regret that you were not able to watch this live!

Well, it’s bad to laugh at the mistakes of others but I just can’t really help myself. I’m so sorry… (*giggles*) I’m not being mean, you know. Maldita lang talaga ako. And I just can’t help but visualize how it’s going to be like in the Miss World 2008 Beauty Pageant.

Wait, I got a suggestion. Since Ms. Janina San Miguel is really pretty and deserving of bringing home the Miss Long Gown and Miss Swimsuit in the Bb. Pilipinas 2008, why don’t we just let her do all the modeling stuff and… How about if she just speak in Filipino and bring an interpreter with her to translate her answer? That way, it won’t be a bigger mess in front of the whole world. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, here are the other winners in the Bb. Pilipinas 2008…

Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2008 – Jennifer Barrientos ( Candidate No. 7; took up Tourism in University of Santo Tomas )

Bb. Pilipinas World 2008 – Janina San Miguel ( Candidate No. 15; Mass Communications student in University of the East )

Bb. Pilipinas International 2008 – Patricia Fernandez ( Candidate No. 2 )

Bb. Pilipinas 2008, 1st Runner Up – Danielle Castano ( Candidate No. 8 )

Bb. Pilipinas 2008, 2nd Runner Up – Elizabeth Jacqueline Nacuspag ( Candidate No. 18 )

Congratulations! Make us proud and don’t mess up, ok? πŸ™‚

  2. 2 hermalditaness March 11, 2008 at 3:51 pm

Oo nga eh. Ewan ko ba… hehehe

  3. 3 coydeleon March 11, 2008 at 6:09 pm

Considering that the heavy hitters like the Latinas (Puerto Rico, Venezuela) usually prefer to use their native language in International Competitions, it would be best for her to just speak in Filipino.

Then again, Ms. World is in China, so she should at least be able to say a greeting in Chinese (which no doubt will be one of her first tasks).

….damn that sounded really gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that…)

  4. 4 ruby March 12, 2008 at 8:15 pm

let’s give her a chance to prove her worth !!! anyway, nobody’s perfect !!!

  5. 5 ivan March 13, 2008 at 1:10 pm

She’s just overconfident.. really really overconfident…
trying to speak what’s in the tip of her toungue
before using her mind… thats what i called “nerbyos”

  6. 7 ivan March 13, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Judging from her state of answering her question,
she’s just so overconfident that her mouth speaks
whatever word comes near the tip of her tounge before her
brain works.. thats what i called hidden total “nerbyos”

  7. 8 tony March 14, 2008 at 11:58 am

i thought mahirap makasali sa Binibining Pilipinas, bkit nagkaroon ng ganyan?im not perfect pero kung titingnan nyo pwede pla ganyan sumagot sa pageant na nka broadcast sa buong mundo at later on nlng pagaaralin ng english lesson or khit pa bigyan mo ng scholarship yan..hindi excuse na bata kpa sumali kna sa ganyang pageant dapat b4 ka sumali nagaral ka muna sumagot ang 1 thing very easy at common ang question para di mo masagot yon in a very simple way. akala ko rin mahigpit ang mga judges sa mga ganyan at b4 ka makapasok sa top10,sinasala mabuti.maybe that was before… sayang..

  8. 9 theodore March 15, 2008 at 7:13 am

just like you said… NOBODY is perfect..
let’s not be mean to her and stop giving her a bad time. What happened to her that night was enough.
the best thing to do is… to wish Janina San Miguel well in
her upcoming Miss World competition. You’ll never know… she might be the FIRST filipina to win the title. The best thing for her to do right now is to have someone to mentor her and give her some positive suggestions. Good luck Janina ! I know how you feel at this time. It hurts when people all over make fun of you. Pick yourself up… keep on keeping on. You will get over it. Good luck !!

  9. 10 Stella March 15, 2008 at 6:16 pm

EH PAANO NAMAN MGA SISTERAKAS, MAGANDA TALAGA SI jANINA KAYA NANALO! HINDI KATULAD NINYO NA MUKHANG TALANGKANG PUYAT NA KATATAE PA LANG!!! NAINGGIT NA NAMAN KAYO DAHIL BA HANGGANG INTERNET NA LANG KAYO AT HINDI KAYO NATI-TV KAHIT KAPIRANGGOT? BWKAKAKAKAKAKAK AS JANINA WOULD HAVE PUT IT, “THAT’S WHAT YOU GOT FOR BEING THE TROUBLEMAKERS, ANY COMMENTS? YOU’RE JUST SHOWING JEALOUSY ABOUT ME AND MY BEAUTY!” BWHAHAHAHAKAKAKAKAKAKAK

  10. 11 hermalditaness March 18, 2008 at 8:54 am

Sorry Stella but WE ARE not jealous of Janina and will never compete with her coz we are NOT of the same level. Considering how she answered in the pageant, what she really got is JUST BEAUTY.

SHE MUST PROVE HER WORTH TO EVERYONE THAT SHE DESERVES THE CROWN BECAUSE IF SHE WILL CREATE A BIG MESS IN THE MISS WORLD 2008, WE WILL SURELY BE SAYING, “WE SAID SO”… AND LAUGH OUR HEADS OFF.

    THAT’S ALL.

  11. 12 RenRen March 18, 2008 at 9:00 am

Stella, what Janina only has is beauty, not brains. In a beauty pageant, Beauty and BRAINS is needed. You don’t have both?? Then YOU ARE MAKING A FOOL OUT OF YOURSELF.

  12. 13 princess March 18, 2008 at 10:35 am

it was funny but yet I felt more embarrassed than she probably did herself. oh well, look at the bright side of the story, since Miss World 2008 will be taking place in China, at least we all know that probably only a quarter of those 4 billion chinese people barely understand a lick of english anyways.. So I guess it won’t make a difference.

  13. 14 jj March 18, 2008 at 10:57 am

Princess– it may not be true that the Chinese ‘barely’ understand English. They prepared well for the Beijing Olympics, their government have given their people free intensive English lessons.

And besides, we are not assured that all judges are Chinese who cannot comprehend English, right?

  14. 15 jj March 18, 2008 at 11:06 am

    Stella–

    if Janina really said this…
“THAT’S WHAT YOU GOT FOR BEING THE TROUBLEMAKERS, ANY COMMENTS? YOU’RE JUST SHOWING JEALOUSY ABOUT ME AND MY BEAUTY!”

then its another proof that she is in need of intensive english language and grammar. it should have been “that’s what you GET for being troublemakers.” and “you’re just jealous about my beauty”.

LOL. even my grade 1 niece could construct a better sentence that what janina said.

  15. 16 abi March 19, 2008 at 3:26 am

pabobohan n lng siguro mga beauty contests ngayon, the more bobo ka & look cute in it, the more ur chances to win, maybe that’s the reason why she was chosen, maybe she’ll get more chance to win the world competition next time magkalat ulit sya.

  16. 17 Cynth March 21, 2008 at 3:02 am

I think it is not fair to judge her only because she can’t speak English and she probably didn’t understand the question. Most Latin American beauties don’t speak and understand English too. I guess it’s really just a matter of understanding what these women go thru when they’re onstage and being scrutinized/judged. I guess nobody is really perfect, and you can try checking your grammar too. JJ, maybe you meant extensive training. And to malditaness, maybe you meant, you wanna know who will be the ones to represent….and you cannot say the biggest pageants, because it is already a superlative suffix not a comparative suffix.
I don’t mean anything but like what i’ve said, let’s not be unfair to her. She maybe a very nice person who can very well represent goodwill rather than intelligence. Thank you.

  17. 18 william g. cerillo March 22, 2008 at 4:38 pm

Huwag nating masyadong i-blame si janina in case na magkalat siya sa PAGEANT OUTSIDE OUR COUNTRY SIGURO ANG DAPAT NATING SISISHIN AY ANG MGA JURORS AT ORGANIZERS NG LOCAL PAGEANT DITO SA ATIN. tHEY SHOULD DO THEIR JOB AS JURORS WITH STRICT AND HIGH STANDARD IN SELECTING THE WINNER/S…

  18. 19 joan March 22, 2008 at 10:16 pm

hey, candidate number 2 is a UP diliman graduate of Speech communicationπŸ™‚

  19. 20 hermalditaness March 25, 2008 at 9:06 am

@ Joan: Thanks for that info. Di kasi nilagay ng official web site ng Bb. Pilipinas yun eh.

@ William: I think you’re right. But the responsibility lies on Janina’s hands now. Anyway, next time sana ayusin na nila ang pag-judge nila.

@ abi: Well, hindi naman siguro lahat ng beauty contests pabobohan. May matitino pa rin dyan. It’s just that nagpasaway lang talaga siguro ang judges ng Bb. Pilipinas ngayon. Pero kunsabagay, maganda naman kasi si Janina.

@ Stella: Haaay naku. I’m not saying I’m perfect. Thanks for the correction though I think hindi naman super bigat ang mali sa grammar ko. I am not also judging Janina’s personality. Actually this blog entry is posted so that the criticisms will serve as a challenge to her and help her achieve the crown. Yun nga lang, masyado ka kasing naging defensive for her and pinersonal mo pa. Lalo na sa first comment mo. Tsk! tsk! tsk!

  20. 21 Laarni March 28, 2008 at 8:52 am

naiirita pa rin ako pag nakikita ko yang video. lol.

  21. 22 marvic March 29, 2008 at 5:16 pm

    ms.hermalditaness,r u perfect?…

  22. 23 marvic March 29, 2008 at 5:23 pm

actually, she’s rily not my bet,but let us give her a chance to prove her ability, her best…maybe dat nyt, she’s rily nervous, even u will get
nervous if u were seen in international tv…think!

  23. 24 hermalditaness April 1, 2008 at 9:38 am

    Marvic,

I understand your point. BUT I THINK YOU have to read ALL THE COMMENTS HERE. As I’ve mentioned in my previous responses to this blog entry and commets, I AM NOT PERFECT.

AND AGAIN, let it be known that this blog entry was posted for the criticisms to challenge Janina to do BETTER and not to degrade her.πŸ™‚

  24. 25 Ilonggo sa Desyerto April 2, 2008 at 5:16 pm

I will never criticize Janina San Miguel if she’s joining Mutya ng Baranggay contest. However, she joined Bb Pilipinas Beauty Pageant, the country’s premier Beauty Pageant. She should have answered her question. Being a 17 years old and a first time pageant entrant is not an excuse to make a mess of herself. Janina’s supporter are justifying her boboo’s that Venezuelan and Latin American delegates to International Competitions do not speak English. It is true that Latin beauties do not speak english but they answered their questions in Spanish. In short, nasasagot nila ang katanungan. Janina did not answer her question. Siguro nga, hindi niya naintindihan ang tanung. Janina’s problem if she’ll ask for an interpreter in Miss World is that, she may not be able to understand her question in Filipino, so she still could not answer the question, even if she’ll answer it in Filipino.

In short, ang boba sa English, Boba pa rin kahit sa Filipino.

  25. 27 photography | cars | me April 3, 2008 at 12:37 pm

lol… the point is she still won. and this made her famous.

  26. 28 JAnice April 14, 2008 at 6:20 am

It’s not Janinas fault at all. It’s in the hands of the judges whoever they want to win. I was kind of disappointed because I have a very beautiful daughter and I’m planning to let her join the Miss Philippines someday. I’m planning to take my dual citizenship while she’s still a minor and she’ll automatically be a Filipino citizen. Americans admire my daughter for being so beautiful but I want her to represent the Philippines someday. I’m a Filipino and her dad is an American. I’m now having second thoughts and I hope everything will improve about the pageant as time goes by. I hope the organization will choose better judges next time.

  27. 29 brihmendiola April 18, 2008 at 6:46 am

Oh please, these days you are better off without speaking english.

  28. 30 Ulol April 19, 2008 at 7:38 pm

Yeah~! she’s the “Beauty but no brains type” I was laughing my ass of when she about to talk… hahahaha… And I felt ashamed knowing that she’ll represent our country… I just wish that the girl who made speech about Walt disney would have won the title…

  29. 31 emily April 26, 2008 at 9:47 pm

ano ba ang pagkakaiba ng bobo sa tanga…alin dun si janina??????

  30. 32 hercy nieva May 1, 2008 at 3:52 am

Janina will have the last laugh if ever she wins the Miss World title. Yes, all the way to the bank. Instead of laughing at her, perhaps some of us who have the money can set up a business in the Philippnes like charm schools to train future beauty queens on how to talk, dress, communicate, and conduct themselves, etc.

    @coydeleon,

Correction: Sa Ukraine gaganapin ang Miss World 2008 in October.

I bet kakabog ang Janina natin sa ganda at confidence nya for sure! Sana si Defensor Miriam Santiago ang kukunin nilang interpreter para kay Janina para mas bongga to the max!

  32. 34 riokristine May 13, 2008 at 8:37 pm

I think Janina is just plain dumb-blonde… I think she did not comprehend the question that’s why she stuttered. If she understood the question quite well, even if she spoke in jibberish Englsih I think she’ll be able to say what’s in her heart. It would be wise for her to get an interpreter in China. Do you ever consider that those Latinas in beauty pageants can understand English full well but prefer to speak in their Native language so that they could better say what’s in their hearts? If you watch them speak carefully, they do not bother about looking good while talking or they don’t care how they sound like. They just speak!

Oh well I think there werent enough smart people on the Binibing Pilipinas pageant that is why the judges chose the most attractive one. With the exception of course, Miss Jennifer Barrientos who is both SMART and BEAUTIFUL…

I’m proud of Jennifer’s elegance and poise and I’m proud to be her friend. See you in Vietnam Jenny!!

  33. 35 hermalditaness May 14, 2008 at 9:34 am

You’re right riokristine. Though there are some people out there who can’t accept that fact. Actually, there’s this one crazy person who continue to flood this blog with dumb lunatic messages defending Janina.

I pity that person. He/she is even worse than Janina…

  34. 36 A.O. June 13, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Blame the judges. They are not credible..mas stupido pa sila kay Janina..sila ang nagpanalo sa babaeng yan…Alam na nga nilang tatanga-tanga ung babae, sya pa rin ang pinili nila..so what kung marami syang special awards?sya lang ba maganda in the entire pageant?Anyway,I would bet a million bucks…I’m 100% sure…mga talunan na nman yang mga yan…I doubt if any of those winners would even make it in the semi-finals during the international competitions..Mga walang X-factor e!Sorry to say but every year, our delegates are getting worse and worse. This is a total waste of money and effort!Maybe its about time for us to stop sending filipinas in these competitions. It’s a shame!

  35. 37 sheng.. July 20, 2008 at 11:25 pm

hay naku gudluk nlng sa kanya…
qng mana2lo xa sa MS. world o hindi…
lets just hope na hindi xa ga2wa ng Eksena…

  36. 38 Andrea December 14, 2008 at 5:49 pm

Hey ladies! Let’s leave Janina in peace. At least she has bowed down from the competition. It was not her fault that she was chosen to represent our country. Blame it on the judges! We have to respect whatever reasons she gave. At least she was humble enough to let go.Let’s not rub it in. She has suffered enough.

  37. 39 Michelene Vano May 8, 2009 at 8:24 am

kung americano, nagkamali sa English, sarili nilang language … tayo pa kaya?
