Disappointed with Twilight movie

(Warning: Some spoilers exist in this post. Prepare to be disappointed. Hehehe…)

The title is TRUE. I admit, I am a fanatic of the Twilight series and it must really be a mystery to all those who know me why I am disappointed with the movie. Now allow me to enlighten you.

I’ve read the book first before I watched the film. I was expecting that the characters, especially Edward, will be played well. However, it didn’t happen that way.

True enough, Robert Pattinson is gorgeous but his acting lacks the ‘dazzling charms’ that Edward is suppose to have. Kristen Stewart tried her best to carry out her character perfectly. Yet again, the flaws in the script made her make Bella so weak and clumsy. AND that’s not how it should be. We must understand that Edward fell in love with Bella because of the strength she shows despite her clumsiness.  Bella’s strength wasn’t even emphasized in the film.

Another one. Bella and Edward’s romantic scenes were very few. It seems to me that they compressed all the dialogues into like three romantic scenes only. Very disappointing.

Have you noticed that Edward is actually a vampire? If I didn’t read the book, I’ll probably be shocked to learn that he is. I mean, okay, his vampire nature was unleashed at the end part. But what about on the other scenes? There were supposed to be hints about his hideous nature. His teeth should have been visible on some parts. But nothing was shown. Very frustrating for the vampires out there.

Also, there were so many tweaks on the story. Bella was supposed to meet Jacob Black for the first time in La Push. Yet, she met him when her father gave her the truck. And the way she discovered about the vampires, is quite far from the original story.

Anyway, I guess that’s just really how movies go. Lots of tweaks that sometimes they fail to notice that they’ve already ruined the story.

FINE. Forgive my rants. I will now keep quiet and just continue loving the Edward I knew from the book.

Where Your dreams Come True ni Anna Ishikawa

Bihira akong magbasa ng mga Tagalog romance novels. Dati nagagawa kong sikmurahin ang kabaduyan ng mga librong ito na nagkakahalagang limang piso lamang. Kunsabagay, ano nga naman ang aasahan mong kwento sa isang mumurahing nobela. Malamang, wala talaga. Gayunpaman, nabihag ng isang Tagalog romance novel ang aking atensyon kamakailan lamang.

Where your dreams come true, isang pamagat na parang passe na pakinggan ngunit tiyak na pag nabasa mo ang kabuuan ng kwento ay maiintindihan mo kung bakit ito ganito. Isinulat ni Anna Ishikawa, nagtuturo  ng English at Creative Writing sa U.P. Diliman, ang nobelang ito ay tungkol sa isang dalagang nagngangalang Emily at sa kanyang paghahanap ng pag-ibig.

Hindi gaya ng ibang baduy na Tagalog romance novels, makaka-relate ka dito sapagkat napapanahon ang mga eksena at Taglish ang lingwaheng ginamit ng may-akda. Mayroon din itong mga simbolismo na bagaman simple ay talaga namang makabuluhan. Isang halimbawa na lamang ay ang nabiling bracelet ni Emily na nasira agad bago pa man niya magamit.

Ang medyo hindi ko nga lang gaanong nagustuhan sa nobela ay ang cover at mga guhit dito. No offense sa artist na si Kristian Teves, pero hindi talaga kasi bumagay ang mga guhit sa kwento. Hindi dahil sa hindi nagawang ipakita ng mga larawan ang mga eksena kundi dahil nagmukhang pambata ang libro. Marahil sanay lang talaga ako sa mga nobelang walang drawing. My apologies.

Kaya kung gusto ninyo magbasa ng Tagalog romance novel, subukan n’yo ito. Baka sakaling gaya ko, mapawi nito ang impresyon ninyo na baduy ang mga Tagalog romance.

Coming VERY SOON: Twilight

One of the much-awaited films in this year, Twilight will be showing soon in theaters here in the Philippines. So before it conquers the big screen, I want to give you a foretaste of the film…

Twilight is based on a New York Times Bestseller novel written by Stephenie Meyer. It was published October 2005 and the first book in the Twilight series.

The novel introduces a 17-year old girl named Isabella “Bella” Swan. Though a bit different from the girls in Phoenix High School, Bella still draws the attention of the boys in the campus. Among them is the dazzling Edward Cullen, probably the most extraordinary person she’s ever met.

Edward Cullen is from a family of vampires. However, unlike other vampires, his family choose not to drink blood. With that, Bella felt more secured about her love for Edward since there’s less possibility of him drinking her blood. Soon, romance blossomed between them. For Edward, he has finally found the soulmate he has been waiting for so long.

But then, a relationship always undergo trials and theirs is not an exception. Chaos arrived in the form of a clan of new vampires hunting for Bella. Will Edward be able to save her from them? Will there be a happily ever after for their love story? Well, I guess you have to watch the film or read the book to find out.
