In support of the Earth Hour event, I would also like to campaign for the turning off of the lights and unnecessary appliances tonight, March 29, at 8pm to 9pm in your own local time. This shall help your respective countries in conserving energy.
The first Earth Hour event was actually done in Sydney Australia. It was spearheaded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (Australia) and Sydney Morning Herald. Records state that the first event was able to cut Sydney’s electricity consumption by between 2.1% and 10.2% for that hour, with as many as 2.2 million people taking part.
I hope that everyone will participate in this international event. WWF (World Wide Fund) promotes this for us to act and be aware on the issues of global warming and climate change. Let’s show some support.
Although, I must say that be careful too for those who will be driving or traveling at that time.
Quite weird isn’t it? But you know what. There’s actually one that happened a few years ago. One initiated by a Sociology professor Morrie Schwartz. Actually, it was mentioned in a book about him.
“Tuesdays with Morrie” is about a man named Mitch who is at the peak of his career when suddenly, his world seemed to froze when he saw his old professor in television.
A true-to-life story, Morrie Schwartz, the writer’s ‘coach’, captured the heart of the readers in his journey to death. In each lesson he has in the ’syllabus’, he shared to us the hidden treasures that life has to offer. His sincere words of wisdom about values and the keys to happiness make us believe that death is such a sweet pain. That sometimes you only realize the true worth of a certain thing when it’s already too late.
As you’ll read in the book, you might get carried away as Morrie’s disease was eating him slowly while he gives Mitch their last lessons on life. Although Morrie has become dependent and weak, he was able to manage the pains of his illness gracefully. He struggled everyday and continued to reach out and touch others’ lives as best as he could.
This first hand account of Mitch Albom on Morrie’s last days on earth gives us ideas on how are we performing lately on our lives. The book will somehow transport you in a retreat or a recollection and make you reflect on your past actions and words to others and to yourself. Morrie’s syllabus shall be your enlightenment as you travel through his words about life while he battle with his disease. This book might even be able to give you the answers you have long been searching for.
Here are some of Morrie’s inspiring statements recorded in the book…
* “Life is a series of pulls back and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to do something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn’t. You take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take anything for granted.”
* “The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it.”
Truly, this is a perfect read for this Lenten Season. If you can’t afford a retreat, grab a copy of this book. If you don’t want to read this, watch it. I know there’s a movie of this already. Also, prepare some tissues too, ok?
After four long years of waiting for this big event, the battle between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez has finally come to an end. And, I must say that every round of the fight was worth the long wait.
Last March 15 at Mandalay Bay Hotel, Las Vegas, two great fighters proved their worth as they struggle to remain standing until the very last round. Marquez got knocked out on the third round but immediately gained his stand and countered. Both fighters got wounded near their eyes. it was really a close fight. A memorable fighting event that history will really be proud to treasure.
Congratulations Pacman for bringing home the WBC Superfeatherweight title and for putting an end to that unfinished business. You deserve what you’ve got. And I’m sure that you will still win in case of a rematch.
X’S:Thanks a lot too Pacman, I didn’t have a hard time traveling that day to my Mom’s house. Everyone else’s busy waiting for your fight. And the bus I was riding on was in a hurry to catch up with the telecast. Hehehe…
So before I started laughing again, allow me to congratulate my fellow Thomasian, Ms. Jennifer Barrientos for winning the 2008 Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown. Go Girl! You made your entire UST family SOOOO PROUD!
Going back, I was one of the many who always watch this annual event at my house. I wanna know who will be the ones who will represent the country for the biggest pageants in the globe. Other than that, I also want to treat myself with some laughter after a day’s hard work — watch out for the funny scenes if there will be any.
Luckily, the pageant didn’t disappoint me. Candidate No. 15 was able to make my tummy ache in laughter.
Grabe talaga ito! At nanalo pa siya! Whahahahahaha…
You probably know already what I’m talking about. But for those who don’t, watch the video below. You might even regret that you were not able to watch this live!
Well, it’s bad to laugh at the mistakes of others but I just can’t really help myself. I’m so sorry… (*giggles*) I’m not being mean, you know. Maldita lang talaga ako. And I just can’t help but visualize how it’s going to be like in the Miss World 2008 Beauty Pageant.
Wait, I got a suggestion. Since Ms. Janina San Miguel is really pretty and deserving of bringing home the Miss Long Gown and Miss Swimsuit in the Bb. Pilipinas 2008, why don’t we just let her do all the modeling stuff and… How about if she just speak in Filipino and bring an interpreter with her to translate her answer? That way, it won’t be a bigger mess in front of the whole world.
Anyway, here are the other winners in the Bb. Pilipinas 2008…
Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2008 - Jennifer Barrientos ( Candidate No. 7; took up Tourism in University of Santo Tomas )
Bb. Pilipinas World 2008 – Janina San Miguel ( Candidate No. 15; Mass Communications student in University of the East )
Bb. Pilipinas International 2008 – Patricia Fernandez ( Candidate No. 2 )
Bb. Pilipinas 2008, 1st Runner Up – Danielle Castano ( Candidate No. 8 )
Bb. Pilipinas 2008, 2nd Runner Up – Elizabeth Jacqueline Nacuspag ( Candidate No. 18 )
Congratulations! Make us proud and don’t mess up, ok?

Recently, a colleague of mine gave me this certain link when I said that I feel bored. He told me, “why not chat with God?”. And there, the story began.
I tried the link practically because I’m really bored. But I didn’t expect that he’s not fooling around when he said that I’m gonna chat with God.
Well, it was a very neat site. You can choose a skin for your chat window. I chose Cadillac Pink. The other colors were Brushed Metal and Heavenly Blue. Afterwards, an angel connected me to God. I noticed one of the text in the site. It says “Repenting made easy”.
I was warned at first that it’s an atificial intelligence chat so I shouldn’t expect that this ‘God’ will take me seriously. But I must say that the people behind this program are really genius. They created a cyber God with a human touch.
So if ever you happen to be bored at home or in the office, why not have a small talk with God? Who knows… this so-called God might be able to really answer what’s bothering you now.
Is it ok if I call u mine?
Just for a time
and I will be just fine
If I know that you know
that I’m wanting, needing your love, oh
If I ask of you, is it alright?
If I ask you to hold me tight
through a cold dark night,
cause there maybe a cloudy day in sight
and I need to let you know
that I might be needing your love, oh
And what I’m trying to say isn’t really new…
It’s just the things that happen to me
when I’m reminded of you
like when I hear your name
or see a place that you’ve been
or see a picture of your grin
or pass a house that you’ve been in
one time or another
It sets of something in me
I can’t explain
oh, I can’t wait to see you again
oh Babe I love your love, oh
*** When you told me about ‘it’, the past flashed across my head. All our moments together. I recalled one sweet November night, in an Italian resto… A man was serenading the customers with this song. In our entire year together, it was the very first time you ever dedicated a song to me. You captivated my heart and now I feel lost…
