Handling the Budget

Undeniably, the cost of living nowadays is so expensive and if you don’t know how to budget wisely, you’re in for TROUBLE.

To avoid encountering holed pockets and empty wallets in the most unwanted times, here are a few things you must do… budgeting (photo c/o fotosearch.com)

* List all your expenses
Every month there are so many  things where our money goes. Things that we need and things that we want. In listing our expenses, we are able to determine those things and how much we spend for them.

* Classify your expenses
For me, there are actually two kinds of expenses. The “Priority Expenses” and “Extra Expenses”. I think that they are self-explanatory already. Priority Expenses are comprised of two other categories. “Fixed Expenses” and “Adjustable Expenses”.

Fixed Expenses are usually the basic bills that we pay like phone bills, electric bills, water bills and house rental. We usually have a monthly estimated amount of how much do we spend for them based on our consumption. They are called fixed because you must pay them or else, you can’t use them.

Adjustable Expenses are things that we need but have a very flexible value. Examples of this are monthly allowance and grocery. We can cut some of our budget for them through other means and alternatives in some aspects involved. You can walk instead of riding a tricycle in going home. Bring packed lunch instead of eating in fast food chains.

On the other hand, Extra Expenses are usually those that are intended just for fun or luxuries. usual examples of this are gimiks, watching movies, dinner dates, and gadgets.

Now that we know our priorities in the monthly budget, we can already proceed to the next step.

* Determine your Savings
Ooops! So you thought that we’re finished already, right? Nope, we’re not done yet. One of the most important factors in handling the budget is SAVING.

Yes, you have to save some of your money too. Open a bank account or invest in a financial plan. When you save, just consider that you’ve already spent the money so that you won’t have to withdraw it from your account.

Remember, your savings will be very helpful to your future. You can start a business through it. Actually, the more you save, the brighter your future will surely be.

* Be sure to have an Emergency Fund
Last but certainly not the least is to alot money for emergency use.

Take note that this should be different from your savings. Why? Savings = Future while Emergency Fund = Unexpected Expenses. You should always have a ready money for unwanted situations. Getting sick or losing a job is something not planned so it’s really better if you always have some bucks ready for use.

Well, now it’s up to you to decide how much you’ll spend. Check your lifestyle and be sure to distribute your allowance wisely. Spend less and save more. :)

ERAP’s Order

Shall we order? (tinawag ang waiter)

Tita Cory: I’ll just have a fetuccini

FVR: I’ll get spaghetti puttanesca

GMA: I’ll have  spaghetti bolognese and tiramisu. Ano sa’yo Mr. Estrada?

ERAP: Ah… uhm…

Tita Cory: (napapahanga sa nakikitang ganda ng resto) Kakaiba talaga ang ambience dito.

ERAP: Alam ko na. Yun. Isang order ng ambience please.

WHAHAHAHA…!!! :D

Waiter: (to Loi) How would you like your steak, madam?

Loi: Medium would be fine.

Waiter: (to ERAP) How about you, sir?

Shanghai Baby: Creating a paper trail to self-discovery

A book that was banned in China in April 2000,”Shanghai Baby”captured my interest right then and there when I learned that fact from a friend. In the book, it was stated that an estimate of 40, 000 copies were even publicly burned. What triggered this reaction of the Chinese government? Well, allow me to tell you and give you some sort of a preview to the book.

A very aggressive writer, Wei Hui narrates the story of a woman who struggles to find fulfillment Shanghai Babyin her life.  In fact, this book is kind of a semi-autobiography of the author too. The novel revolves around Nikki also known as Coco, a 25-year-old cafe waitress who later on decided to pursue her writing when she met a young artist named TianTian. She fell in love with him and even lived with him but amidst the relationship, there is this emptiness that lurks in her heart.

Then she met Mark, an adventurous, wealthy man who became her German lover. She found that passion and sexual satisfaction in him that her live-in boyfriend cannot give. With all the twists of her two relationships, she struggled to finish a novel that would reflect the ‘real world’. And thus, it is through her novel too (and with a bit help from her live-in boyfriend) when Coco begins to know who she really is.

“Shanghai Baby” truly has that aggressive voice of today’s generation. The views on life, love and sex have never been so realistic. The language is both poetic, sensual and full of sincerity. This novel suits not only the youth but all ages who are still at the crossroads of their life.

A journey to one’s own life and dreams is never really easy and the book served like a map or rather a guide. There was no doubt that it became a bestseller. And also, became very controversial.

Well, let me give you some of the great lines from the book…

* “Death is the expression of exhaustion, a solution arrived at rationally once one has known the deepest depths of tiredness.” -TianTian (Coco’s boyfriend).

* “Life is like a chronic illness, and finding something interesting to do is a kind of long term cure.” -Coco

This novel is truly a must-read. Though I must say, that you must watch out for the ending of the story since it might leave you craving for more of it. Anyway, the sequel of this novel is “Marrying Buddha”. I think I should read it soon too.

Things to Do on the year’s CHEESIEST DAY

Love is in the air and it’s definitely creating a HUGE amount of pollution in the atmosphere. Financially conservative people suddenly become extravagant. Flowers keep on popping here and everywhere. There are giggling girls, chocolates, and mushy things around. The world must have gone INSANE. Is it the END?

FINE. I’m hybernating in ‘Charantia’ mode again (Yes, slight hint of bitterness clearly visible). In fact,  I’m in a GOTHIC fashion right now. I don’t wana wear anything red today in fear of being mistaken for a fast food crew or something. Mwahahaha…!

OK ENOUGH. So for people out there who don’t have much amor for this date ( I can’t even say it! Waaaah! :p ), these are the things that you should consider doing for the rest of the day after reading this blog… Things to Do

And here’s also a prayer that might help…

Dear Lord,

Give me the courage to face the mushiness of the world today.  Let me stay calm despite the irritating Public Display of Affection of some silly persons around me. Help me to be focused in my work, in all that I do, and that today is just another ordinary day. And PLEEEASE… deliver me from slapping the face of the jerk who will ever try to mess with my day.   Amen.
